3G iPhone Letdown

Today Apple announced the new 3G iPhone for release on July 11th. I’m sure there are many Apple fans who are thrilled about getting their hands on the new updated piece of handheld goodness. I, on the other hand, am highly unmoved by this new release. The main new features include 3G data speeds and connections, GPS functionality built in, new black plastic back and a white backing option at the 16gb level, better battery life, louder audio, logical headphone jack. Here’s how I break these details down as a user:

*forever to me means I can listen to music all day, talk, browse the web, email and text and the battery still half full. I recharge daily.

With these few new updates I can honestly say I’m not itching to buy a new iPhone. I was hoping for more features and the smallest size to be 16GB. What happens when someone wants music, videos, and new applications on their iPhone but they only have 8GB? Luckily for me I never really watch videos on mine. My music is confined enough for me to have enough space for apps as well inside my 8GB storage. With how cheap storage is and how far along the technology is I really anticipated a 16GB and 32GB announcement.

That said I am happy to see Apple joining the 3G arena. While it doesn’t directly affect me today I know it will in time. I don’t plan on moving ANYtime soon so I’ll just have to wait out the 3G arrival to my area. I’d be happy enough to get a decent AT&T signal at my house.

It’s fun to watch products like this and the products of competitors. A simple google of “iphone competition” will bring up some interesting products and articles.

Go forth and google.
