New Blog

Hello to the fabulous world of blogging!

For some time I have been considering blogging. I’ve had erikreagan.com for about 5 years now and I haven’t really kept up content in about 4 years. A few months ago the desire to blog started to grow considerably. Not only is it a great way to share with others but it is a great way to meet other’s interested in similar fields as myself. I have numerous interests but I have managed to narrow my (initial) blogging down to a few areas. Allow me to expand…

Life!

I will, from time to time, share things that are going on with my family, friends, and myself. I am blessed with an amazing family and wonderful friends. I have an amazing and beautiful wife, Nikkie, and she and I are expecting our first child on October 4th! I’m so thrilled about this blessing! I have a graphic design and web development business called Ideal Design Firm. My partner, Bill, and I currently work out of our houses respectively and are enjoying the work! Due to the additional responsibility of a baby on the way I also work at Savannah Christian Church as the Web Developer. This is a fulltime position so as you can imagine I stay quite busy which leads me to my next topic…

Web Development and Design

In 6th grade my dad, also my computer teacher at the time, pointed me towards the fabulous world of HTML 3.2 and I began piddling around with websites. Throughout middle and high school my interest grew more and more in not just web coding but also design and aesthetic. Most of my projects these days are done aside a designer and I do the majority of the code and development work. I’m not a big fan of the WYSIWYG environment so I code using what I consider the best text editor out there - Textmate. I do most of my back-end work in a LAMP environment but I’m starting to lean toward Ruby on Rails. I’m sure I’ll talk more about these things in future posts and I will soon add a portfolio section to the site.

Music and Worship Leading

I grew up around music, instrument playing and singing so it was no surprise when I got involved in the high school praise band. I started playing guitar at 16 and have loved it ever since. During my 11th grade year I was blessed to be under the guidance and example of Jordan Clark. Jordan was an intern at Savannah Christian Church and he’s definitely been the biggest influence in my playing. I started to really understand what it meant to lead in worship during Jordan’s time at the church. I’ve led worship at a few churches in the Savannah area but right now I am not currently playing guitar in any ministry. I do currently sing in the choir at Rothwell Baptist, where my wife and I attend.

I plan to use this blog to share thoughts on music, worship, and guitar in general. I haven’t progressed in my playing in a couple of years but I do have some fun tricks I hope to share sometime soon via video.

Wow! You’re still reading?!
